From 13 to 15 November, Sr Marjolein took part in the conference on ‘Protection of Minors in the Church in Europe’ in Rome. There were about 150 participants (bishops, major superiors, religious and laity) from 25 countries, as well as representatives from the Curia, Porticus, Renovabis, etc.
In the course of the meeting, participants changed the title as they felt that it was not only about minors, but also about vulnerable ‘adults’. The new title is now ‘Safeguarding in the Church in Europe’.
One of the conclusions was that it is very important that bishops and religious work together more intensively.
In order to give the religious a clearer voice, Sr Marjolein had the idea of inviting the presidents of the national Conferences to appoint a person in their country to be the contact person from UCESM.
The final statement of the conference can be read here.
