A history, united for a better service
1980: a first General Assembly of several Presidents and General Secretaries of the national Conferences of Western Europe was held in Paris in view of the foundation of UCESM. The two following questions were asked:
Do we want a European Union? All the participants agreed.
Do we want one European Conference of men and women together or two separate Conferences? The first proposal was adopted.
A provisional committee was appointed to implement the creation of the Union of the European Conferences of Major Superiors, «UCESM».
1981: second preparatory General Assembly for the foundation of UCESM in Rome (Italy): choice of the name of the Union, examination and vote on the canonical statutes. UCESM was founded.
1983: approval of the canonical statutes by CICLSAL at the Vatican.
1983: Statutory General Assembly in Rome, elections.
Canonical Statutes signed in Rome in December 1983, re-examined in 2003.
A new version of the Canonical Statutes was approved by a Decree of DICLSAL on 13 June 2023.
Creation of the International Non-Profit Association (AISBL) according to Belgian Law in 1999.
